Our first trip to South Africa and we were a little nervous. From reports of dangerous cities, carjacking to animal no shows in safari we had plenty of reasons to be nervous. Andrew and the team put our minds at rest, interrogated us on our needs and wishes and then put together our itinerary. After a little to’ing and fro’ing, nothing was too much trouble and they are always there for advice on what to do, we settled on our trip.
Words won’t really do justice to it as quite simply it was our best family holiday ever. From meeting local people in Soweto, Johannesburg to an abundance of animals in Kruger and everything in between we had so many experience and have so many memories. Everything went smoothly, our accommodation was as expected or better – special call out to Thonga Beach Lodge which was the best (great service, great food and really off the beaten track – oh, and swimming with whale calves) and the people welcoming. And, the animals! Well, we had it all and in abundance – baby leopards, prides of lions, rhino, elephant…I could go on. The Rhino Post Lodge in Kruger was definitely worth it – we had lions and hyenas outside our tents at night (and baboons and monkeys around them in the day) and always felt safe thanks to the expert staff.
Driving through parts of the country and through Eswatini (Swaziland) was fun even though a long transfer and with time hiking around Blyde River Canyon we experienced so much of South Africa in just 2 weeks.
Now we just have to plan our return!
